American architects Tiffany Dahlen and Virginia Melnyk conceptualized a radical nightclub in Japan that’s a direct response to the vibrant youth culture of Harajuku and the high-end fashion district of Omontesando. The nightclub features a large entrance hall, sushi restaurant, sake bar, music lounge and two VIP lounges.
“The project took four months to design and a myriad of changes through the development,” says Melnyk. “It is not by chance that the project looks sweet like Candyland – much of our inspiration came from the sensations of taste and our perception of a visualization of these sensations. It is our hope that this project will push boundaries and leave viewers with a wider imagination of what architecture and design can be.”
Worked closely with Professor Ali Rahim, Dahlen and Melnyk came up with the design when they were asked to developed a “new approach to the night club experience” through novel modeling and rendering techniques. They both graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Architecture degree in 2010. Dahlen is currently working as an architect at MAD, while Melnyk is at HWKN.
