Hope and Heaviness in the Eyes of Cambodian Children

Spanish art director Diego Arroyo just returned from a trip to Cambodia, coming back with some stunning portraits. As you may recall, Arroyo spends his free time traveling the world in search of the subtle: “a smile, a wink of complicity, that special look that reveals our true and intimate essence.” He looks to find the stories behind people’s eyes, the hope and heaviness we all bear as human beings.

While you can see his full set at Behance, I chose to highlight his beautiful photos of the Cambodian children.

“I’ve always been very interested in Southeast Asia so this time I decided to go back and visit Cambodia, a country full of wonders,” he tells us. “My intention was to turn the camera around and focus on its people, trying to portray those who witnessed the atrocities of the civil war as well as the new generations and how those realities converge nowadays.”
