Amazing Geometric Forms Sculpted With Sand

On a hot summer day, it’s quite typical to see people making sandcastles along the shores of sandy beaches. Whether the constructions are large or small, simple or complex, this fun pastime is something that many beachgoers enjoy. Sculptor Calvin Seibert is someone who has taken this simple activity to a whole new level. He considers building sandcastles as “a bit of a test. Nature will always be against you and time is always running out.”

To create his amazing sandy geometric forms, Seibert says he rarely has a plan and just lets the ideas develop. He first makes the basic shapes with his hands and then, with a lot of practice and a simple plastic spackle tool, he achieves exact precision and clean edges. Having mastered the delicate nature of sand as his material, Seibert’s detailed constructions will have you staring in awe. The artist says, “They become organic machines that might grow and expand. I am always adding just one more bit and if time allowed I wouldn’t stop.” But, eventually the tides come in and the water washes away his hard work, leaving Seibert with a fresh, clean canvas to create something that could possibly be even better than the day before!
