Father Offers Wisdom to His Kids Through Powerful Double-Exposure Photos

Florida-based photographer Brandon Kidwell uses his artistic skills as a powerful way to give valuable advice to his kids. In a series titled Wisdom For My Children, Life Lessons Through Photos, he creates double-exposure images that convey different teachings. It’s a personal project that took form over many years, and it reflects the real experiences he’s had with his offspring. Each photo is symbolic of some piece of advice that he’s given them.

Kidwell’s stunning images aren’t ones that they’ll soon forget. The mostly black-and-white compositions combine portraits, hands, and landscapes, fusing them into abstract photos that are both bold and subtle. They’re best enjoyed when you can spend some time with them. At first glance, you might just see a hand, but as you gaze longer you’ll notice it contains a someone’s portrait. You can’t help ask the question, “how does this idea relate to me?”

Although each photograph looks beautiful on its own, Kidwell has also included a short sentence of wisdom. We’ve included them all below.

Above: Being free means having the courage to let go.

Failure and Regret are reserved for those who are afraid to reach with their heart.

To find your courage, you must first find your fears.

Sometimes what we fear the most is only something we haven’t grasped an understanding of.

In order to follow your heart, you must first find your mind.

Lost time is never found again.

To find truth, sometimes you have to reach into the darkness.
