Modern Bookcases Cleverly Revolve to Reveal a Secret Room

With a penchant for design that is both functional and fresh, São Paulo-based architect Consuelo Jorge constructs inventive interiors that showcase simplicity and play with space. While her neutral color palette and clean lines may appear unassuming, she is also known for her creative quirks, like her recent spin on the classic bookshelf.

Aptly designed to accent the avant-garde home of a Brazilian art collector, Jorge’s shelving unit is more than meets the eye. The three bookcases appear to comprise a stationary wall but actually revolve to uncover the home’s best-kept secret: a hidden living room.

Beautifully captured by photographer Fran Parente, the surprisingly bright and spacious nook transforms the interior of the house, offering more room to entertain—or the perfect private hideaway to curl up with a good book.
