Spiral Staircase Effortlessly Flows by Floor-to-Ceiling Bookcase

Staircase designers Bisca show just how much character that this architectural element can bring to a space. While working with a client in Yorkshire Dales, Northern England, the company was tasked with replacing an ill-fitting staircase. Their new design needed to reflect a modern sensibility and allow more light into the ground level, as it has only a single window. Bisca’s solution is a stunning set of spiral stairs. The back is capped with a smooth, white finish that mimics the ceiling, and it effortlessly flows from two stories. Better yet, the design also complements the impressive floor-to-ceiling bookcase that’s anchored against the wall.

The staircase features a mixture of natural materials punctuated by an industrial-feeling aesthetic. Pale English Oak was used on the treads and risers while forge-formed steel makes up the balustrade uprights. Hand-stitched leather is on the handrail, and its slightly-distressed appearance makes it look as though generations of people have passed up and down.
