Vanshika Agarwala
With a penchant for nature, Indian artist Vanshika Agarwala specializes in meticulously-cut paper patterns inspired by flora and foliage. In addition to the outdoors, Agarwala is also artistically motivated by an interest in exploring her surroundings and discovering new places. “My paper cuts are a whimsical take on the things we see around us everyday,” she explains, “and are greatly inspired by my love for travel and architecture.”
Tahiti Pehrson
Unlike many other paper cutting artists who specialize in figurative pieces, California-based creative Tahiti Pehrson works in the abstract. Inspired by guilloche, an ancient engraving technique, he crafts hypnotizing paper installations. Featuring geometric patterns and sinuous, spiraling motifs, each of his sculptural pieces presents the artist’s delicate approach to the art form.
Suzy Taylor
Artist Suzy Taylor crafts fragile delicate paper creations inspired by both her love of folk art and an attraction to floral motifs. Given the precision of her ornate pieces, one may be surprised to learn that every detail is achieved by hand. Though tedious, this time-consuming process appeals to Taylor, who also works with polymer clay and as an illustrator. “I love working this way,” she explains. “It’s totally absorbing and I can get lost in it for hours.”
Parth Kothekar
Inspired by everyday life, Parth Kothekar creates small-scale cut-outs that look like line drawings or stenciled sketches. Though each piece appears undeniably precise, his artistic approach is surprisingly fluid. “The thing with paper cuts is that one doesn’t know the final output until the end,” he explains. “I have an assumption of what it might look like and that is what I work with. It is the curiosity of finding out if I have got it that keeps me going.”
Riu
Self-taught artist Riu specializes in intricate paper art composed of geometric shapes and repeating patterns. Spanning a variety of influences, including symbolic mandalas and eye-catching Art Nouveau motifs, the elaborate pieces exhibit the Japanese artist’s interest in achieving balance and promoting harmony through his art.
