Aerial Views Adria is a collection of colorful photographs in which the sandy shores of Europe have been transformed into a series of abstract shapes and forms. From high above, Germany-based photographer Bernhard Lang documented rows and rows of beach umbrellas at seaside resorts along the Adriatic coastline in Italy.
Through his lens, he captured symmetrical arrangements of small, patterned umbrellas, strong shadows, lounge chairs, and various vacationers as they enjoyed a hot and sunny day at the beach. Hundreds of vivid circles placed in organized lines fill the beaches while people are merely scattered specks in the water.
“The message might be to show the impact of human beings on the natural environment,” explains Lang. “On the other side, the birds-eye view reveals that we are just small creatures, not as important as we think we are.”
