Professional photographer Philip Haumesser transformed a desire to take better pictures of his children into a thriving business, and now he’s sharing some of his secrets with the world. By showing behind the scenes images of his photo shoots, Haumesser inspires aspiring photographers to get out there and take photos in any conditions.
Haumesser began his photography journey in 2015, when his wife purchased him a camera to help him document their growing family. After he started sharing his photos online, requests from people wanting him to photograph their children poured in—and a new business was born.
“I started to realize that my photos made people happy, and it made me happy to do them. So I started accepting clients,” he shared with My Modern Met. “Now, on top of doing just about every kind of photo session, I also teach other aspiring photographers about photography on my website.”
Haumesser honed his craft, and with little to no money to invest in expensive gear, got creative. His tips? “I learned that you don’t have to have the most expensive camera to take great photos. I realized that you could save a lot of money by using old vintage lenses and getting cheap adapters so the lenses would fit my camera. I also learned how to look for great photo spots in any location by seeing how the light hits certain areas. This made it easier for me to shoot in almost any location.”
Haumesser’s blog is full of tips and tutorials on how anyone can improve their photography, helping to break down some of the confusion and stress people can feel when working with a camera for the first time. In the behind the scenes photos that Haumesser’s wife captured, it’s clear that the professional photographer involves his children in his work. In this way, it’s more than a photo shoot, it’s family time.
