Pantene’s Newest Spokesperson Is a Baby with an Amazing Head of Hair

There’s a whole industry dedicated to helping adults achieve thick, luscious hair; meanwhile, some people naturally have it the moment they enter this world. Baby Chanco from Japan gained viral internet fame in December 2017 by being born with a “brilliant bouffant” of dark locks that look like the hair of a much older person. While most babies eventually lose the soft fuzz they’re born with, Chanco has retained her amazing hairdo and even needed her first trim when she was just six months old.

This special baby has won over the hearts of social media (thanks to her mom Mami Kano) with an Instagram account boasting over 350,000 followers. Now, she’s taking her success to the next level—Chanco is the new face of Pantene Japan hair products. “We feel [Chanco’s] beautiful hair has strong power that makes people positively move forward,” Yoshiaki Okura, P&G Japan Hair Care Associate Brand Director, said in praise. “And we also support her mother’s positiveness to post wonderful moments with Chanco.”

Pantene shared Chanco’s advertising debut on On January 7, 2019. She is pictured alongside Japanese television announcer Sato Kondo, a woman known for her gorgeous gray hair. According to Okura, the ad is geared towards women who “want to be positive and make a new start through their hair.”

In addition to the Pantene ad, Chanco is also the star of a short accompanying video called “The Hairy Tale.” Watch it below.
