Mexico City-based studio Anagrama has recently completed a beautifully unique library interior in Monterrey that celebrates the joys of reading a book. To create this feeling, the designers produced a dome-like structure that encloses readers in a lattice cocoon, surrounding them from head to toe in literature.
Conarte, Monterrey’s city council for culture and art, commissioned Anagrama to create the intimate reading space. Their timber construction is a clever reimagining of a bookshelf and also provides the redesigned area dual use–as a place for storage and as its own “room” within a room. The curving wood plays with perspective and depth, simulating an expansive space that feels open and airy. Coupled with calming blue walls and steps, it’s a tranquil, inviting place to get lost in a great stories.
