To photographer and devoted yoga practitioner Alexey Wind, “no matter what surrounds you, what’s important is how you look at it.” With that approach in mind, Wind captures captivating shots of himself and his friends as they calmly stretch, pose, and meditate in crowded cities. He shares each “om”-inspiring photo on his Instagram page and photography project, Yoga and the City.
Wind captures flexible yoga enthusiasts as they miraculously manage to find tranquility in seemingly hectic surroundings. As they close their eyes and meditate, life resumes around them. Though cars and bicycles zoom by and passersby carry on with their daily lives, the yogis remain in their seemingly soundproof bubbles, proving that anytime is a good time to relax. After all, as Wind notes: “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”
Many of Wind’s photos are set in New York City, where he has lived and worked for 6 years. In addition to the iconic streets of the Big Apple, Wind also employs various other bustling backdrops as his muse. His showcased settings include the colorful sidewalks of Miami, the busy beaches of Los Angeles, and even the crowded squares of Moscow. Wind clearly has no shortage of inspiration when it comes to both his creative and his meditative practices.
