With a background in event planning and a passion for design, Los Angeles-based baker Alana Jones-Mann creates custom cakes that double as delightful works of edible art. In addition to conventional cake-decorating themes like flowers and festive holidays, Jones-Mann has also found inspiration in an unlikely source: the humble shag rug.
Featuring colorful, abstract designs and textured surfaces, Jones-Mann’s carpet confections capture the spirit of the ’70s staple. Like her popular cactus cupcakes, each retro rug cake is covered in buttercream frosting. Through a meticulous piping technique, she is able to evoke the psychedelic patterns and free-spirited aesthetic of the fuzzy floor coverings.
