Visually Striking Minimalist Photos Represent an Abstract World

This visually striking series, by Budapest-based photographer Adrienn Balask, relies on reflections, symmetry, and natural light to produce elegant and abstract formations. The artist draws upon real life scenes–birds flying across a grassy field, lamp posts lined up in a row, a single boat floating on a lake–and then transforms them into strikingly minimal compositions that show off the simple, still, and stunning representations of the world  through the artist’s eyes.

Balask focuses on single elements surrounded by blue skies and vast landscapes. She flips things around, turns them upside-down, and reinterprets what she sees to create the abstract works that are almost surreal. Some photographs are filled with vivid colors while others are simply black and white, focusing more on the shape, form, light, and repetition of objects. She blurs the horizon lines so that earth and sky become one single plane on which objects exist. The results are these captivating photographs that are both intriguing and confusing at the same time.
