Rania Matar is a Lebanese photographer who had a genius idea to photograph young women from around the world in their secret place…their bedroom. Matar’s inspiration for this project is derived from her own teenage daughter. Watching her grow from childhood into adulthood gave her the desire to photograph other young women in their personal space.
“As I observed her and her girlfriends, I became fascinated with the transformation taking place, with the adult personality shaping up, with an insecurity and a self-consciousness that are now replacing the carefree world the girls had lived in so far,” Matar shares. She has photographed well over 125 girls thus far, with more to come.
