Could you imagine looking up at the stars while chillin’ in this pool? Located in Roca Blanca, Mexico, the Universe House was designed by Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco, and built by architect Tatiana Bilbao.
The house, which nestles in a rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is an actual-size replica of one of the structures that make up the Jantar Mantar astronomical observatory in New Delhi, built in 1724. With its observation platform, built around the swimming pool and small residence, the house opens onto its surroundings.
The two-bedroom house was built by local workpeople using simple materials and technologies (cast concrete, prefabricated blocks, whitewashed plasterwork and wood). The idea was to create interaction with the topography of the land and the existing vegetation, and to bring out the quality of the site as a panoramic vantage point.
