MoMA and Mattel Reimagine Classic Toys and Games With an Artist-Inspired Twist

Mattel and MoMA Collaboration - All Products Included

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and toymaker Mattel are two powerhouse brands, albeit known for different things. MoMA is the home of thought-provoking modern and contemporary art, and Mattel is the umbrella under which brands like Barbie, UNO, and Hot Wheels exist. Now, the two have come together in an incredible five-year partnership to create products inspired by one another.

For its first collection, a handful of Mattel’s brands have reinterpreted masterpieces from the MoMA. The seven products will debut on November 11, 2025, and will be available on the direct-to-consumer Mattel Creations website and the MoMA Store website, as well as in person at its New York and Japan store locations.

One of the standout pieces from the current collaboration is Barbie and Vincent van Gogh. This collectible doll is donning a gown inspired by The Starry Night, with swirling motifs from the paintings skies and a striking crescent moon detail in Barbie’s curls. Another playful take on artists is with the brand Little People Collector, which has imagined its small figurines as famous painters. Included in this round of products is one set modeled after Salvador Dalí, which comes with two people: the artist as we recognize him, and the other inspired by The Persistence of Memory. Claude Monet’s Water Lilies is another set. Like Dalí, it features two figures, including one of the artist and the other thats a representation of the painting—accessories and all.

“MoMA has long championed the transformative power of art and design as a catalyst for education and creativity,” shares Jesse Goldstine, chief retail officer, MoMA. “By joining forces with Mattel Creations, we are inviting a generation of new audiences to experience the Museum’s collection in ways that merge contemporary art with creative play and design innovation.”

Nick Karamanos, SVP of Entertainment Partnerships at Mattel, echoes this sentiment. “This collaboration is more than a product launch, it is a global design partnership. Through Mattel Creations, we have been reimagining our brands as collectible, design-led experiences. Partnering with MoMA enables us to translate some of the world’s most iconic artworks and artists into amazing expressions of culture, design, and storytelling that will resonate with collectors and fans for years to come.”

Look for the launch on Mattel Creations and the MoMA Store website on November 11, 2025.
