If you’re an artist, Instagram is one of the best apps to share your work on. The visuals-focused platform puts images first and welcomes a wide array of media and styles. So, it’s no surprise that from time to time, memes and challenges arise that invite creatives to post their work in a different format. Since 2016, artists have been sharing photos of themselves surrounded by their work using the hashtag #artvsartist.
The general format is simple and easy to replicate by anyone. In nine squares, eight of them feature artwork while the center image is reserved for a selfie. It’s extremely popular with the drawing and illustration crowd, and the mini portfolio showcases some of their best pieces.
#Artvsartist plays another important role in addition to self-promotion—it reminds followers that there is a person behind the artwork. These individuals are trying to hone their craft while sharing their creative souls with the world at large. It’s something to celebrate!
