A pioneer of Post-Impressionism, Vincent van Gogh created over 2,000 masterpieces during his brief (yet clearly impactful) career. From famous sunflowers to iconic self-portraits, many of the artist’s paintings are still recognized and adored by art enthusiasts all over the world today. In celebration of Van Gogh’s legacy, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has teamed up with skate brand Vans to create a limited edition collection that allows wearers to celebrate their love of the Dutch master’s art, from head to toe.
Due to launch in August 2018, the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection features sneakers, t-shirts, and jackets that have been printed with some of the prolific artist’s most recognizable paintings. Pieces include Vans’s trademark slip on shoe printed with Van Gogh’s Skull (1887); a backpack, baseball cap, and high-tops adorned with an Almond Blossoms (1890) pattern; and a hoodie with a central Sunflowers (1880s) motif. The Vans designers even went so far as to include subtle details on the shoes and shirts that mimic the artist’s distinct brush strokes and handwriting. Each item also comes with hangtags that detail historical facts about the referenced artwork.
“We are delighted with the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection, as it ties in with our mission to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them,” Adriaan Dönszelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum, said in a statement. “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art ‘Off The Wall’ and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”
The entire collection will be available to purchase via the Vans website and the Van Gogh Museum store starting August 3, 2018. A portion of each sale will be donated to the museum to help with the ongoing preservation of their fantastic collection.
