Graffiti Artist Creates Graphic Murals of Women With Stylized Hair

A post shared by Vinie (@viniegraffiti) on

French street artist Vinie Graffiti is celebrated for her larger-than-life portraits of women. Characterized by “volume,” these mesmerizing murals feature cartoon-like characters with extreme proportions, expressive faces, and swirls of stylized hair.

Inspired by the playfulness of pin-up models and the bold graphics of manga illustrations, each eye-catching piece showcases the artist’s distinctive approach to portraiture. While the figures’ faces are rendered in a simple, straightforward style, their tresses have taken on a life of their own. Polychromatic paint splatters, kaleidoscopes of butterflies, and even scribbled words are just some of the motifs that the artist magically turns into long locks.

In addition to painting her subjects’ extraordinary manes, Vinie Graffiti also cleverly incorporates actual ivy as hair—an avant-garde approach that goes hand-in-hand with her new interest in experimental sculpture. Whether spray-painted on a wall or installed in a gallery, each work of art colorfully captures both the subject’s individuality and the artist’s imagination.

Vinie also builds her murals around the environment. Natural foliage overtaking an urban landscape is suddenly a brand new hairdo.
