Makeup has always been one of the best ways for people to outwardly express themselves—more so now than ever, thanks to contemporary beauty trends. With dazzling, unconventional colors en vogue, it’s no surprise that makeup addicts are using them to transform parts of their bodies into spectacular works of living art. For years, Andrea Reed, aka Girl Grey Beauty, has created lip art that blows us away with its color, detail, and creativity.
Reed’s makeup art runs the gamut of subjects, and she loves to experiment with new imagery and techniques. Previously, she’s taken inspiration from real works of art like Katsushika Hokusai’s Great Wave Off Kanagawa, but she hasn’t stopped there. Some of her latest applications include an homage to Gustav Klimt and the old logo for Instagram (the platform she now has over 338K followers on).
Reed also finds unusual ways to collaborate with other makeup artists. Last year, she and Laura Jenkinson (another My Modern Met favorite) collaborated on a makeup project inspired by the 1951 Disney film Alice In Wonderland. For it, Reed interpreted the line “Do you suppose she’s a wildflower?” and painted flowers all over her lips, while Jenkinson adorned her chin to resemble the kooky Mad Hatter.
