Architecture and design firm Brut Deluxe has designed a dazzling light installation for the Luneng Sanya Bay Light and Art Festival in China. This rainbow labyrinth titled Yǔzhòu is an immersive experience that brings visitors inside a technicolor world.
Brut Deluxe, which is headed by Ben Busche, focuses their work on everything from ephemeral art installations to industrial design, with an eye toward social and aesthetic qualities. For this latest light installation, the studio constructed a maze made out of 8-foot-high acrylic panels. The layout of the labyrinth is based on triangular geometry, and each panel has a special film attached which renders it semi-transparent.
The geometric theme is carried through by the circular grooves mechanically incised into the surface of each panel. In order to create a technicolor ambience, these grooves are illuminated by multi-colored LED lights that subtly shift color, making for an ever-changing experience.
To enhance the experience, the panels along the outer perimeter are fitted with a mirrored film, allowing the labyrinth to stretch toward infinity. As visitors move toward the interior of the creative maze, they are sucked further into the light installation, where they are lost in a rainbow world.
This incredible light installation is like walking into a technicolor dream.
