Philippe Morgese is the inspiring single dad of Emma, who has taught himself all the life skills necessary for raising a daughter in today’s society—which includes braiding hair and painting fingernails. In order to help other dads connect with their daughters, Morgese created the Daddy Daughter Hair Factory—a series of free hairstyling classes to educate fathers on how to spend quality time with their girls and help them look fabulous. A year after his organization’s conception, Morgese is back—this time with a workshop on the art of the man-icure.
The most recent event was held at Daytona State College with the support of the college’s Cosmetology Department faculty and students. In total, 23 men (dads, stepdads, and grandfathers) attended the free class, which focused on nail painting with a few hairstyling tips, too. At first, Morgese and the other men struggled to find the proper painting technique. “All of us were looking at each other like ‘What did we get ourselves into?’ It was a tad overwhelming, but we picked it up,” Morgese told The Huffington Post. “I had no idea there were so many steps to it.” During the two-hour workshop, the men learned how to clip, file, buff, and paint their daughters’ nails. Some dads even received their own manicures so daddy and daughter could match.
The night was successful and provided yet another opportunity for men to interact with their young girls. In the future, Morgese hopes to expand the organization to include a wider range of activities for fathers and daughters, such as gardening, art, photography, and cooking classes. “I figured the male ego would be a huge wall to overcome,” he said, “but men of all types, single and married, are embracing the opportunity to connect with their girls.”
