Meet The Judges!
Kindra Nikole
Kindra Nikole is a Seattle-based mixed-media artist whose work draws on natural settings to create surreal, otherworldly images. Kindra manifests fantastical realities in her images, oftentimes with a hint of dark allure. Her works tend toward vibrant, rich colors and typically feature a solitary figure immersed in nature.
Kindra creates many of the sets, props, and costumes seen in her images. She then captures the intricacy of the moment with her trusty camera, Sir Didymus, and spends a great deal of time editing the image on her computer. The image is then printed onto gicle paper and treated as her underpainting layer, which is mounted onto a wood panel. Kindra then embellishes the piece with acrylics and sometimes metal-leaf techniques, creating a unique, beautiful painting. Finally, Kindra glazes the entire piece with a resin coating, creating a lustrous, glasslike presentation which also seals and protects the image.
As a native to the Pacific Northwest and avid lover of the great outdoors, Kindra’s profound admiration of nature is harnessed as a foundation in all of her work. Kindra believes that the mystery and magic of nature is a boundless well of inspiration. Outside her passionate pursuit of art, Kindra enjoys yoga, snowboarding, longboarding, hiking with her dog Ziggy, and reading.
Dave Brosha
Holding a passion for the world and an eye for the beauty it contains, Prince Edward Island-based, award-winning commercial, personal, and adventure photographer Dave Brosha is on a continual journey to seek out and capture the beauty of this world–whether it’s the beauty of some of most extreme and pristine environments in the world, or the beauty of someone’s most personal moments. Having lived throughout northern Canada for much of his life, Dave–along with his beautiful wife, Erin, and three children–has also lived in Asia and traveled extensively through the many provinces and territories of his native country, not to mention numerous countries abroad. Published in countless media outlets around the globe–online and in print, including CNN, Canadian Geographic, the Daily Telegraph, National Geographic, Outdoor Photography Canada, The Today Show, and CTV–Dave’s work defies genres and his passion is limitless. His work has been featured by Flickr, 500px, Petapixel, My Modern Met, and is listed in Phlearn’s “Inspirational Photographers: A Curated Guide To The Best Photographers On The Internet.”
Elizabeth Gadd
Elizabeth Gadd is a 23-year-old photographer based just outside of Vancouver, Canada. Having grown up in this beautiful area, she easily fell in love with exploring the surrounding forests, hills, mountains, and ocean–all of which are heavily incorporated in her photography. First picking up a camera 10 years ago, she was immediately drawn to the world of creating magical photographs involving nature and landscapes, eventually leading to the whimsical combination of landscapes with human portraiture (usually self-portraits) that she’s known for today. This special niche of Elizabeth’s photography has been described by others as fairytale-like, visual storytelling, awe-inspiring, dreamy, and full of wanderlust. To this day she enjoys travelling, creating, eating chocolate, chasing opportunities, adventuring with her dog, and looking for beauty in the world, always.
David Talley
David Talley believes in a necessary resolution. An internationally recognized photographer and educator operating out of Portland, Oregon and Sydney, NSW, his work exhibits the darkest moment before an explosion of light. A story broken, but changed for the better, and the ability to transform the present problem into a prospering future mark his imagery. David is the founder and creative director of the worldwide conceptual photography movement, Concept Collaboration, and teacher of the artistic-creation workshop movement, Create From Your Heart.
In 2015, David traveled to 8 different countries, including The United Kingdom, Norway, Brazil, Italy, Japan, Vietnam, India, and Australia, teaching hundreds of students his technique and vision. David’s mission as an educator is to help photographers grow in their inspiration, motivation, and technique, leaving his students feeling in-control of their creative future.
Sarah Ann Loreth
Sarah Ann Loreth is a fine art and travel photographer from New England, who specializes in conceptual portraiture. In her work she tries to convey a quiet stillness of emotion with a connection to her natural surroundings. She stumbled upon photography while working in the medical field and threw all her energy into teaching herself the craft. When not taking photos Sarah is an avid gardener who loves to cook, write, and listen to political speeches.
