Bookstore-Themed Tokyo Hotel is a Charming Literary Haven Lined with Shelves of Books

Designed to resemble an inviting book store, the Book and Bed Hostel in Tokyo offers its guests the chance to experience what they consider the “greatest moment of sleep”–the point where you are so absorbed in a really good book that you just nod off in the midst of reading. The recently opened lodge stocks over 1,700 books, in both English and Japanese, and hopes to attract visitors from all over the world to their distinctive housing. It provides a fun and stylish alternative to the typical hostel experience, offering guests the perfect place to curl up with a good book. This unique reader’s haven combines the best of travel and literature with its alternative style of accommodation.

At first glance, the central area resembles a typical library or book store with shelves of books on one side, and couches and pillows to relax on the other, however on the shelves, between the rows of books there are also single-occupant sleeping compartments that are accessible via ladder. Guests sleep amongst the thousands of books that they are free to enjoy. The hostel also offers 18-bunk sleeping spaces, more similar to typical Japanese capsule accommodation if one requires a more spacious stay. Nightly rates range from 3,800-6,000 yen (US $32-$50).
