Chinese artist He Peixi used only coins, agate stones, and chopsticks to create an incredible replica of his hometown. After collecting 11 different kinds of both ancient and modern currency, Peixi ended up using 50,000 pieces for his unique project. For two hours a day, the imaginative artist stacked coins with chopsticks to construct the landmarks, bridges, and buildings of Chingqing, China. Both vivid green and red stones were used to represent the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. During the month-long process of the model’s creation, no glue was applied, since there is a Chinese law that prohibits citizens from damaging money.
This is not Peixi’s first time using coins to create a miniature architectural wonder. He has been interested in this noteworthy form of art for the past three years. Last year, the remarkable coin architect created a detailed replica of the Titanic in only ten days. “It is a painful work to do,” the artist explains to CCTV. “But once you finished it, there’s only satisfaction.”
