Meet Zeus, a blind Western screech owl with eyes that look like windows to another galaxy glittering with stars. The adorable little owl was found lying on a porch one morning after he flew into the side of the house because he was unable to see where he was going. After a visit to the vet, the starry-eyed bird was brought to the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California to be looked after. There, he was named “Zeus” after the Greek god of sky and thunder because of his extraordinary, gold-flecked eyes filled with the beauty of the cosmos.
Because of his blindness, Zeus cannot be released back into the wild, so he now lives happily on a perch on a filing cabinet next to Wildlife Learning Center founder Paul Hahn’s desk. The pint-size owl spends his days leading a peaceful life and helping to educate the public about wild animals.
Zeus the blind owl has the most spectacular eyes.
And despite having what seems to be the entire universe within his gaze, he’s actually an adorably tiny guy.
