Remarkable Photo Shows a Perfect Layer of Ice Peeled off a Leaf

So we’ve all probably seen icicles, sure, but what about a perfectly preserved ice leaf? Maybe not. Reddit user SearonTrejorek recently shared this remarkable photo of a ghostly-looking leaf, which he carefully peeled (after a couple of tries) from its green counterpart. The frigid foliage was from a Magnolia tree and discovered after a day of freezing rain in the Hardin Gardens on the campus of Winthrop University in South Carolina. Luckily, SearonTrejorek was able to snap a picture before it melted, and we’re able to see the crevasses and folds frozen in the delicate ice.

If you’re wondering about a sudden cold front moving through, don’t worry. SearonTrejorek says this photo was actually taken a couple of winters ago and he found the picture when going through his phone.
