Oftentimes, nudity in art can come off as a bit risqu, but there’s a beauty in the human form that many artists seek to expose and admire. New York-based Japanese photographer Shinichi Maruyama’s Nude series presents a way to both capture the graceful fluidity of a body unencumbered by clothes and keep it elusive enough to refrain from offending anyone.
Maruyama’s long exposure photographs exhibit a hypnotizing sense of motion. The flesh-colored silhouettes appear like swirling brushstrokes against an empty black backdrop. All eyes are forced to focus on these magnetic and artistically abstract figures. It’s like watching a nude ballet performance all at once.
