Spring is upon us! The flowers are in bloom, the trees are blossoming, and my allergies are at an all time high. After a gloomy winter here on the east coast, it’s exciting to spend more time outside in the sunshine and warmer weather. Every year in Washington, DC, the city celebrates spring with the Cherry Blossom Festival. The event is described on the website as a “celebration of spring, the gift of the cherry blossom trees, and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan.”
This year New York-based photographer Navid Baraty ventured to the Tidal Basin in downtown DC to capture the natural beauty of this festival. In his bio, Baraty says that he is obsessed with photography because of its “universal ability to engage our senses and tell a story.” His images clearly convey not only the charm of the massive trees and their blooms, but also the shared experience of celebration that occurs as people from all over the world come to the nation’s capital to partake in this recognition of spring.
