How often do we stop to look up at the trees that tower high above us? They surround us and essentially provide us the gift of life, it’s only fair to observe and appreciate the beauty of these hauntingly majestic trees. Photographer Grant Simon Rogers has an enveloping fascination with nature and shares his perspective of the leafless wooden giants, from below.
At just six-years-old, Rogers was introduced to the world of photography with his own Kodak Instamatic 100. Over 40 years later, the London-based educator has rediscovered his passion for capturing images, allowing himself what he calls a “creative distraction.” Always having a soft spot for the Instamatic model from the 60s, Rogers continues to take many square-shaped pictures as he explores the outdoors. His black and white stills really animate nature’s stationary beasts. There is remarkable detail in the texture of each trunk while simultaneously silhouetting the top-most regions of the outspread limbs of the trees.
