I’ve always believed that the best celebrity portraits give you an inside look into a glamorous world while maintaining a level of authenticity. The photos never stray far from the personality but they show you a slightly different side you may never knew existed.
Looking through photographer Tom Munro’s work, that’s exactly the feeling I get. Classic and uncomplicated, his photos all have one thing in common – they’re simply stylish. It never seems like Munro’s asking anyone to put on fancy costumes or be someone they’re not. Rather, he brings out the God-given personalities of his subjects.
English by birth, Tom Munro moved to New York in 1990, embarking on his own career as a photographer in 1997, and achieving overnight success with his early editorial shoots for British Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Over the last ten years, Munro has contributed to some of the world’s most prestigious magazine publications including Vogue and Details. Most recently Munro directed Madonna’s music video “Give it to Me,” the success of which led to him directing a second video, “Die Another Day,” and shooting the book for her Sticky and Sweet world tour.

“Photography is a way of life, more than a job. You have to live and breathe it and be passionate about what you’re doing. It needs to be fed and be nurtured and isn’t something you can pick up and put down. In a way, it consumes your life.” – Tom Munro
