Designed by Pls Arkitektar, Iceland Pavilion looks like it’s going to be one of the stand-out structures at the upcoming 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Arkitektar’s concept was to create the image of an ice cube. The exterior is made out of back-lit printed fabric which captures complex ice patterns that are only visible within a glacier.
Inside the Pavilion, a short movie will be projected onto white screens along the walls and ceiling that make up an all encompassing sound and image capsule. The atmosphere inside the pavilion will be cooled down and dehumidified to create a tranquil little Iceland at the heart of the World Expo.
The Iceland Pavilion aims to explain the fundamental relationship between nature and energy, while also highlighting their local people, urban areas, and culture. Using HD video projection, a story of survival and success unfolds, bringing visitors from the Shanghai Expo to the peaceful and crystal clean environment of Iceland.
