It’s been over five years since the Gulf Coast was hit with Hurricane Katrina but after seeing these photos, the haunting feelings still remain. Ogden Museum in New Orleans is now displaying 53 of the most memorable photos from the days and weeks following the storm in their new exhibit, Telling Their Stories: The Lingering Legacy of the Hurricane Katrina Photographs. (25 of the full 53 are shown here.) “We wanted to start a dialogue between the subjects, the viewers and the providers of the imagery,” said Smiley Pool, Chief Photographer and Photo Coach at the Houston Chronicle. “Telling Their Stories recognizes the role that photojournalism plays in the first draft of history, and that great photojournalism provides context and meaning to the events happening around you.”
