Football Miracle – Zhong Biao
The World Cup will start in less than a month, and for the second time in history, it is is accompanied by a major official art project.
The collection features works by seventeen internationally acclaimed artists with a special relation to the African continent. Famous top-ranking artists include William Kentridge, Marlene Dumas and Romero Britto.
The 2010 series encompasses artworks that are diversified in style and expression, ranging from Kentridge’s “Bicycle Kick” that appears to be a leap of joy to Isolde Krams’s “Red Elephant” holding a football in its trunk, and from Peter Eastman’s night view of a stadium building site in South Africa to Hassan Musa’s transfer of the biblical scene of Jacob battling with the archangel into football.
